Who: I've
been a journalist and writer for over 40 years, working in the
print media from 1982-1997 and then the BBC before setting up my
own business in 2011. While I was at the Western Morning News,
1989-1997, I was a news reporter and the Torquay United
correspondent. In 1990, I wrote the first ever history of Torquay
United FC. I was in the BBC Devon website team with Kevin Heathorn
and John Govier that was behind the creation of theDevon
flag.
What: I write commissioned features for publications; media
releases; & website content for businesses and organisations.
Among my specialisms is football writing. I write features for
Lionesses match programmes, including player interviews, and I'm a
member of the Sports
Journalists' Association
and Women
in Football. There's more about my
football writing in the 'Thank you Lionesses'
blog.
I work as a freelance writer for a number of charities, arts
organisations, health providers, schools, and sports bodies.
Take a look at my 'who I work with' page
for details.
I assist organisations with specific media campaigns - clients
include Theatre Royal
Plymouth, who
commissioned me to work with them on their innovative community
projects and to profile their creative team at TR2; and theDevon
FA,
for whom I have written a series of inspiring stories focusing on
their girls' talent pathway.
Check out my unique Memory Maps, like the one I've written about
Torquay United
FC- visit the page to find out
more. In
2016, I completed a Memory Map for the BBC to mark the official
opening by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall of their refurbished South
West HQ in Plymouth. A copy of the map, detailing the history of
the BBC in Plymouth, was given to the Duchess.
I've helped dozens of people to
have their life stories written and printed, through my other
business, Brilliant
Autobiographies. I've
also published selected works, including
the children's book, Tuamor the Turtle, written
by Jo Earlam with wonderful illustrations by Mark
Hannon. ISBN:
978-0-9931883-1-2, price £5.99 plus p&p - visit the
Tuamor
the Turtle website for more details and
to buy direct. It's
also available on Amazon.
I'm one of the small team at One Plymouth, a volunteer-run
social media stream that celebrates the best of Plymouth - here's
the One
Plymouth Facebook page, which has 47,000
'fans' and is growing all the time. My
photography page has a gallery of some
of my favourite photos.
