Who: I've
been a journalist and writer for over 40 years, working in the
print media from 1982-1997 and then the BBC before setting up my
own business in 2011. While I was at the Western Morning News,
1989-1997, I was a news reporter and the Torquay United
correspondent. In 1990, I wrote the first ever history of Torquay
United FC. I was in the BBC Devon website team with Kevin Heathorn
and John Govier that was behind the creation of theDevon
flag.
What: I write commissioned features for publications; media
releases & website content for businesses and organisations;
blogs; case studies; downloadable material such as ebooks; reports
& documents; words for promo brochures; local histories; and I
have written people's life stories in the Brilliant
Autobiographies 'branch' of my work. Among my
specialisms is football writing and I'm a member of Women in
Football. There's more about my football
writing in the 'Thank you Lionesses'
blog.
I work as a freelance writer for a number of charities, arts
organisations, health providers and schools - examples are Scott
College, Stoke Damerel Community College, The Primrose Foundation,
Livewell South West, Friends & Families of Special Children,
Plymouth Octopus Project, Wren Music, and Delamore
Arts - take a look at the PR portfolio for
details.
I assist organisations with specific media campaigns - my clients
include
Theatre Royal
Plymouth, who have commissioned me
to work with them on their innovative community projects and to
profile their creative team at TR2. I also help businesses who need
an extra pair of hands during busy periods, by working part-time on
a freelance basis.
Check out my unique Memory Maps, which are perfect for marking
special occasions and to present a history of a place or a club -
like the one I've written about Torquay United
FC- visit the page to find out
more.
In 2016, I completed a
Memory Map for the BBC to mark the official opening by HRH the
Duchess of Cornwall of their refurbished South West HQ in Plymouth.
A copy of the map, detailing the history of the BBC in Plymouth,
was given to the Duchess.
My photography page has a gallery of some of my favourite photos.
My interests include food & drink, travel, photography, the
coast, nature, wildlife, music, theatre, literature, history and
sport - especially cricket and football.
I publish selected works through Brilliant
Autobiographies, including the
children's book, Tuamor
the Turtle, written by Jo Earlam with
wonderful illustrations by Mark
Hannon. ISBN: 978-0-9931883-1-2,
price £5.99 plus p&p - visit the Tuamor
the Turtle website for more details and
to buy direct. It's also available on
Amazon.
I'm one of the small team at One Plymouth, a volunteer-run
social media stream that celebrates the best of Plymouth - here's
the One
Plymouth Facebook page, which has 44,000
'fans' and is growing all the time.
